The Mystery of Wisdom

Read through the book of Proverbs, and you’ll notice a pattern that shows up again and again: “Better is X than Y.” This “better than” language is how wisdom works in real life. Sometimes life is black and white — right and wrong, good and evil. But often, the choice isn’t between sin and righteousness. It’s between two understandable options… where one is simply wiser. That’s where life gets gray, and that’s where wisdom matters most. So what is this “better than” language really teaching us? How does it invite us deeper into the mystery of living well with God?
