Surprised by Worship

Nov 23, 2025    Pastor Bobby Brooks

Six days before the Passover meal (the meal where Jewish folks remember their ancestors’ deliverance from Egypt) an incredible act of kindness was shown to Jesus. Mary, Lazarus' sister, anointed Jesus' feet with expensive perfume, spreading it around with her very own hair. It is a powerful act of worship, one that touches Jesus' heart in a deeply meaningful way. But not everyone sees it as a beautiful expression of gratitude. Judas scoffs at the whole scene, rebuking Mary's use of the perfume in such an extravagant way. But what Judas sees as a waste, Jesus sees as worship. This Sunday, we'll unpack this interaction between Jesus and Mary and explore this simple but important truth: grateful people worship.
