To Train Us to Trust

A repeated theme through Israel’s meandering journey towards Sinai is that of testing. God tests the people to see how they respond to a variety of challenges, circumstances, and temptations. Over and over again, Israel fails the test. They grumble, complain, and at times, even wish they’d died back in Egypt. And yet, even though they keep failing, God stays faithful. Even though they keep coming up short, God continues to provide. While the people fail time and again, God never fails to meet them in their need. It’s almost as if these tests are less about Israel proving themselves to God, and more God proving Himself to the people. This week we’ll explore the possibility that sometimes God leads us the long way home, not just to test us, but to train us to trust Him.
