The God Who Heals Us

The parting of the Red Sea has got to be one of the greatest miracles next to the resurrection itself. Israel, pursued by Egypt, threatened with death, hemmed in by water and sand, is led through the waters safely to the other side, only to crash back in upon the very army that sought their destruction. The Bible isn't shy to tell us how they felt - the first part of chapter 15 is one big song of worship, with Moses and all of Israel worshiping God and celebrating His power in response to their rescue. You'd think, after experiencing all that, that the people would have seen enough to trust God's goodness and ability to provide. But the text tells us that it only takes about 3 days before the people begin to complain, grumble, and doubt God. Despite their complaints, God again provides, giving them just what they need, just when they need it. In fact, God reveals a new attribute of His character to them through this drama, telling them, "...I am the Lord, who heals you.” Maybe just maybe, God leads us the long way home, not to hurt us or hold us up, but to heal us.
