Surprised by (Inter)dependency

Matthew 10 is filled with surprising twists and turns. As Jesus often does, he doesn't teach, speak, and act as we might expect. While there are many curveballs contained in this chapter, one of the most surprising shifts is Jesus' instructions surrounding what to take on his disciples' first ever missionary endeavors. Jesus sends them out to heal and proclaim the Kingdom of God, but He has a whole list of things not to take - no money, no extra clothes, etc. The things Jesus instructs His disciples not to take are ordinary travel items. They are the kind of things anyone would take with them on a journey and yet, He orders them to leave these things behind - why?

This week, we'll explore the surprising nature of Jesus' teachings in Matthew 10 and discover a Jesus who is very much committed to teach us the power of interdependency.
