Reflections on the Storm

In Mark 4, Jesus saves his disciples from what appears to be a death inducing storm. Out on the waves, in the middle of an unexpected storm, the disciples, many of them seasoned fisherman, believe their demise is close at hand. Then, almost dismissively, Jesus speaks a command over the storm for it to cease and desist and it does. Passages like this are wonderful and encouraging but it does make one wonder - what do we do with verses like this when very real, very destructive storms still take lives and destroy livelihoods? This week we'll do our best to sit in the tension of God's goodness amidst human suffering and tragedy, not simply to better understand, but to better respond to the needs around us.
