Healing What You Hear

The fear of the Lord' is one of those phrases that conjures A LOT of varied responses.  Some roll their eyes.  Others get uncomfortable.  Some dismiss it altogether, while others just don't know what to do or how to feel or how to reconcile this idea with the God of love they've come to know in Jesus Christ.  What are we to do with this phrase?

Part of the problem we moderns face is we are so keyed into our emotional responses to things - our response to how we hear what we hear - that we never stop to ask, "What did they (our biblical ancestors) hear?"  What if what we hear isn't what they heard and could it be possible that if they heard something different, that we're not actually hearing what the phrase actually means?

As we kick off our new series, Fearfully Unafraid, we'll start by trying to better understand what the people of the biblical world heard and understood about the fear of the Lord in order to heal our understanding of it today.
