A Path Towards Enduring Hope

In Psalm 42, we're given some beautiful words that have inspired hope and faith for many throughout history. "As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, my God." While these words are indeed lovely, the context of these inspiring words is often ignored. The speaker is desperate for God because God feels distant and his enemies feel close and unrelenting. Verse 10 demonstrates this dual challenge to the psalmist's faith saying, "My bones suffer mortal agony as my foes taunt me, saying to me all day long 'Where is your God?'" In other words, life is hard and God feels absent. So, what do we do when it feels as though the world is against us and God seems MIA? Psalm 42 offers us a powerful, hope-filled way of responding to life's most challenging seasons.
