The Trivial
All too often, when we think about what derails our lives, what holds us back, and keeps us down, we think about our sin, our failures, our mistakes, poor choices, and bad decisions. And for sure, these things can absolutely do that. But in Luke 17, Jesus offers us an interesting perspective. When reflecting on the stories of the flood (Genesis 6-8) and the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah (Genesis 19), Jesus draws our attention not to the cataclysmic sin that was prevalent in each of these stories, but to the mundane, ordinary, regular routines of life that we live out each and every day. Jesus' point is not that sin doesn't affect us negatively - of course it does. His point is that we often underestimate how blinding our normal, daily, simple activities can be. Is it possible that one of the biggest obstacles we have today is the small, trivial, seemingly insignificant compromises we make? Join us this Sunday as we confront these trivial compromises and discover fresh hope through Jesus Christ our Lord.
