Good Bones: The Fall

A talking serpent. A garden of unhindered goodness. Trees with the power to give life unending or knowledge at great cost. For many many people, the words of Genesis 3 are just the fanciful, uneducated storytelling of an ancient people trying to make sense of the world. Well intended, sure, but archaic and anything but true. For the Christian, however, the words of Genesis 3, as fantastic as they may appear, offer us the clearest, more concise explanation of the human condition. If Genesis 1 offered us a vision of how God intended the world to be, Genesis 3 offers us an explanation of the world as it actually is. This week, we'll explore the second movement in our 4 part gospel series, traditionally referred to as "the fall".  Far from being a book that is so heavenly-minded it is unmoored from reality, the Bible offers us a sobering explanation of the human condition, one that has the depth and detail to make sense of the senselessness we so often experience.
