Blessed are the Merciful - 9am Traditional Service

"Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy."

This might be Jesus' most straightforward blessing. Those who show mercy, will receive mercy. But is that really it? Is it really that simple? All the other blessings we've read so far have a different structure to them. There's a movement from what appears negative (and usually is) toward something positive. But here, it's more of a lateral move - what you give is what you get. If you show mercy to others, you'll receive mercy from God? Whereas the other blessings feel more transformational, this one feels, well, transactional. Is it really that simple, or is there more to this blessing than first appears?
