Those Who Hunger and Thirst

“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled.” While this promise may seem straightforward, I wonder if there's more going on here than we realize… When things seem overly obvious, it's helpful to step back and define terms. What does Jesus mean by 'righteousness'? And what exactly does it mean to 'hunger and thirst' for it? In what sense does God intend to 'fill' us with whatever this hunger/thirst for righteousness means? As we lean into these questions, what we'll begin to see is that hungering and thirsting for righteousness has a much more dynamic meaning than we realize and with it, a much more expansive invitation to experience the blessing of God in Christ.
